Which Institution will distribute our film?
A distributor is a individual or an organisation who will represent your film at different festivals such as; awards, red carpet, concerts and many more. A distributor will market you film all across the world, which attempts bring your product to the television, and make it a great success. The distributor will also aim to bring the movie to home viewing; DVD and on demand. The distributors job is mainly to make the movie a success by distributing it all around the world.
I think the distributor that is most likely to distribute our film would be either Warner Bros or Twentieth Century Fox. This is because these two distributors have distributed many movies, that have been distributed well and have seen great success. Also, there have been many movies distributed by these two distributors that were similar to the genre we have chosen to do in our film, which is horror. This is why we would pick either one of these distributors, as they have been very successful and would help distribute our film to make it successful. We finally came to a conclusion that we could have Warner Bros distribute our film because they have had more experience and they have distributed amazing horror movies so far which that made major hits.
BBFC- British Board of Film Classification- Nitisha
BBFC is the British Board of Film Classification, this is
where the company would age rate the film according to what is in the film, but
they also say some contents cannot be seen. BBFC are an independent body which
classifies cinema films. They also classify videos/DVDs. BBFC’s job is to make
sure the content in the film, video etc. are suitable for home viewing, they
also make sure there is no over content that the audience watching the
film/video would take on, such as self-harming, drugs etc. They are classified
through ‘U’ (Universal), ‘PG’ (Parental Guidance), ‘12A’ and ‘12’ (Anyone 12 or
over), ‘15’ (Anyone 15 or over), ‘18’ (Anyone 18 or over). These are given
according to the contents in the films, such as: Violence, Sex scenes, Drugs,
Strong Language, Verbal references etc.
Our film classification is most likely to be 15 because we
have strong violence such as killing and blood in our film, this cannot be seen
in ‘12’ rated films as they say there shouldn’t be injuries or blood shown in
the film. We cannot use ‘18’ as they have strong violence and strong horror
which in our case we don’t have, therefore we would know people around 18 wouldn't want to really watch the film; this is why 15 is the best age rate.
Age Ratings- Shivani
We looked into three age ratings that our movie could be, which is 12A, 12 and 15. From looking at these three we chose to do 15 as our age rating for our opening sequence. We chose this because we are going to have use of props which is knifes etc. And this will lead into a mystery killing scene. In horror there can be strong threat and menace (as long as it is not sadistic or sexualised), although the strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable, therefore 15 as an age rating for our film is suitable. We chose to do 15, because there may be scenes which include violence, which would be suitable for only 15+ and not anyone under the age of 15, that is why we think that doing 15 is more suitable for our film.

Location Recce- Nitisha
Location:
The location we are going to use is Barham Park, the reason we're going to use this location is because we think it will fit well with what we are planning to do and also with our genre. The reason we specifically chose this Park was because it has swings and also has a deeper walking place which is where we can show the running scenes.
We looked at another park which was Horsenden Hill, we were not so keen on this location, one because there was no small tree area where we could do a running scene, secondly because there wasn't a way we could link the swing scene with the running through a tree place because they were not close to the swings and lastly because we were thinking about risk assessments as we
will be filming this part of the scene in the evening.
We also looked into One Tree Hill. The reason to why we didn't like this location was similar to Horsenden Hill except One Tree Hill doesn't have a good enough cramped tree area to where we can do the running scene. Also, the park is an open area which won't go to well with our running scene cause we want it to be around loads of trees.
Conventions for Horror- Shivani
Conventions we will be using for our film -
Audience Survey- Shivani & NitishaConventions we will be using for our film -
- Blood
- Weapons
- Death
- Victims
- Chasing sequences
These are the main conventions we will be using for our film
Blood - This is one of the convention that is necessary that will be in our film because blood signifies that the genre of the film is horror. As in most horror films there is blood, which shows the film is scary.
Weapons - In our film one of the main weapons we will be using is a knife. This is because our film includes a killing scene and the prop used to kill the antagonist is a knife. Also knives are conventions in horror films, especially if there are killing scenes involved.
Death - This is also another convention that is used in a horror genre film and that will be used in our film. Death is one of the main conventions used in a horror film because either the protagonist or the antagonist die. In our film, one of the protagonist is killed by the antagonist.
Victims - Another convention that horror films use is the use of victims in horror films. As sometimes they are targeted or attacked for no reason by the antagonist. In our film there are 3 victims, in which one of them is killed.
Chasing Sequences - These scenes are usually used in horror films, especially when the antagonist is trying to chase the protagonist, so that the antagonist can kill the protagonist. Chasing sequences signify that there is a lot of tension between the characters and the suspense is building up, as one of them is bound to get hurt in the end.
The audience survey helped us with our final piece as we got our audience to give us some information telling us what they like to see, such as iconography, genre, settings etc in films they dislike about films.

How women and men are represented in horror movies. - Nitisha
Over time the representation of women have changed, this is shown as back in the days women were stereotyped as being the weak and powerless ones and always relied on men to save them in difficult environments. In movies women were shown as fragile and princess which meant they were meant to be protected by men at all times.
Whereas, now women have become non stereotypical and have started to fight back and show the audience that women are as masculine as men are. They've started to show their brave and smart sides in movies. Women have started to show their powerful sides which has given women major roles in the movie industry. In movies when women are the only protagonist, they always tend to to the last ones alive by the end of the film, this was shown in the movies 'Friday the 13th', 'Halloween', 'Scream' etc. A reason to why women have been shown as masculine and powerful in horror movies is due to the equality of men and women in present days which horror movies are trying to show to the audience. There is also an example in the movie 'Panic Room', this is where the women is scared and doesn't know what to do, she thought her being in the room would be a safe place for her but she was wrong. When she escaped was when she started to show her brave side and became masculine and started to fight the men that were in the scene.
Men are stereotypically seen as more tough and less motional in horror movies, they are seen as the ones that would fight back without thinking about what they're doing. Men are typically known as the heroes in horror movies as they were brave and shown as being more active.
